Application Engineer - Project Management

Location: Auburn Hills, MI

Single Source Technologies (SST) is a single-source solution, providing machine tools, engineering services, tooling, supplies, application support, and customer service to manufacturers within the aerospace, die/mold, industrial parts production, automotive, medical, energy and medical markets. SST is searching for an Application Engineer for the Auburn Hills, Michigan location.

The Application Engineer is responsible for supporting the sales territory for pre-sale technical requirements, supporting proposal requirements, visiting customer sites as needed, supporting turnkey requirements as developed by engineering, and assisting in the installation or de-installation of the process as required.



The Opportunity

As a full-time Single Source Technologies Applications Engineer you will be responsible for supporting customers by providing technical, design, and product application guidance to meet customer needs.

  • Support sales territory for pre-sale technical requirements including time estimates, test cuts and technical discussions
  • Support proposal requirements and showroom related activities, when needed
  • Perform post sale startup support for customer in area of part processing, programming structure and operator training
  • Visit customers in need of AE assistance as directed by supervisor
  • Work in conjunction with local field service on customer machine issues as required
  • Support turnkey requirements as developed upon arrival into territory
  • Present and/or teach technical requirements for high speed machining
  • Coordinate process training (including machine options, programming, cell operations) internally and at the customer's facility
  • Assist Customer Support in the installation/de-installation process as required

To qualify you should present a professional image, be a team player, and a self-starter, and have:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 5 years applications experience related to automotive, industrial and/or aerospace sectors
  • An in-depth understanding of Horizontal and Vertical 5-axis machines
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing production
  • Ability to sit with blueprint of a part and process that part
  • Experience with tooling selection for various processes, and an understanding of sound part fixturing concepts.
  • Ability to explain to customer about processing technology while building rapport with customer
  • Advanced working knowledge of NC programming, including Macro B and probing routines
  • Have background with SPC, CPK, and CMM
  • Willingness to travel

Field Service Technician

Summary

Already established in Canada with over 550 machines installed throughout Canada, as well as, a market leader in Horizontal Machining Centers systems, Makino and Single Source Technologies Canada are rapidly expanding their operations in Canada. SST, representing Makino as well as other high end machine tool products, is a single-source provider of machine tools, engineering services, tooling, supplies, application support and customer service throughout North America. We are currently seeking a Field Service Technician for our Toronto, Ontario location.

Reporting to the SST Service Manager, this position is responsible for installation, maintenance, trouble-shooting and repair of CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers at customer locations in assigned territories. This role is responsible for:

  • Installing / training and providing technical knowledge and troubleshooting at the customer’s facility.
  • Providing a communication link between the customer and Makino.
  • Creating and developing procedural documentation.
  • Using and understanding the Customer Support computer system.
  • Supporting the Product Specialist on a rotational basis (providing technical phone support)
  • Serving as Subject Matter Expert in support of the Knowledge Products Team.


Qualified Candidates should present a professional image, be a team player and a self-starter, and have:

  • Electrical/Electronics or Mechanical Technology diploma is preferred.
  • 5+ years in a technical role, including experience in installation, diagnostics and service of CNC Machining centers; knowledge and experience working with Makino or Fanuc controls highly desirable.
  • 5+ years experience with Vertical and Horizontal Machining centers
  • Prior experience repairing and/or rebuilding equipment or machines other than machine tools is a plus
  • Previous experience verifying machine alignments
  • Experience rebuilding Rotary/Index Tables on a machine tool is a plus
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills with the ability to read and understand technical documents, electrical schematics and assembly drawings (such as hydraulic and ladder diagrams) is required
  • Excellent communication and customer relation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • Rational decision making ability
  • Willingness to travel weekly to customer sites, both regionally and nationally; could be overnight stays through week

Machine Sales Engineer

Summary

SST is searching for a Machine Sales Engineer to be based at our Auburn Hills, Michigan, location. The Single Source Technologies facility is located in Greater Detroit’s high-tech corridor near the Chrysler Tech Center and headquarters in suburban Auburn Hills. The 40,000-square-foot facility houses sales, technical support, training and customer service.

The Machine Sales Engineer will be responsible for territory in the Eastern Michigan area and is responsible for the development of profitable sale of Single Source Technologies products within the assigned territory through contacts, inquiries, services, advertising and correspondence, and involving continuous development of prospects or potential users of company line of machine tool products and accessories.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Machine Sales Engineer include the following:

  • Organize the work and plan activities for the most effective coverage of assigned territory. This includes scheduling calls, preparing itineraries, and contacting customers and prospects to discuss requirements, specifications, problems, and complaints.
  • Arrange for quotations or proposals to be completed promptly, including new estimates of prices on special products. Furnish all necessary specifications of customer requirements including prints, sketches or descriptive detail as required to properly process quotations/orders. Arrange for demonstration of product as an aid to selling, when practical.
  • Take effective action on customer complaints - make minor repairs or arrange for service calls.
  • Instruct customer in the general use and maintenance of new equipment to minimize product liability exposure.
  • Maintain daily records of activities, such as call reports and customer record forms. Submit regular and special reports as required in connection with calls, sales, complaints of customers, expense and other phases of sales activities. Write orders and follow up to insure delivery. Expedite past-due shipments and keep customer informed of major delays, changes, or situations affecting delivery.
  • Constantly review sales efforts and results in relation to forecasts or potential of territory. Create surveys to determine customer acceptance or sales potential for new products or applications. Assist servicemen and office personnel in resolving problems and clarifying details connected with field sales activities.

To qualify you should have a professional image, be a team player and a self-starter with a strong work ethic, and have:

  • Bachelor degree in an engineering/technical/business discipline or related experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years sales experience in the manufacturing/milling industry.
  • Knowledge of CNC Machining and understanding of milling practices and processes.
  • Excellent communication and customer relation skills.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge working with MS Office. Saleslogix and SAP preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Solid time management, prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Valid and current driver’s license required. Must have ability to drive to customer locations to establish rapports, as well as to, deliver product in person when possible.
  • Previous development of sales territory experience preferred and ability to “close” the sale is a must.
  • Candidate must be willing to relocate to the Auburn Hills, Michigan, area if not already residing in this area. Relocation provided.
